Toya Delazy celebrates Youth Month with the release of two new tracks No Follow and Diamonds In The Rough are set to inspire South African youth

Toya Delazy is encouraging empowerment and perseverance with the release of two new tracks, this Youth Month. No Follow and Diamonds In The Rough are the lead singles off her upcoming album scheduled for release on 7 July, and they are set to inspire the youth of South Africa to recognize their power and follow their dreams.

“We always honour the Youth of 1976 in South Africa and what they fought for. I am the product of their sacrifice and a representation of the dream they were praying for,” says Toya Delazy. “As an African female running my own company internationally and traveling the world, this is the dream they were talking about. So the date is powerful, and a mark of what the youth of South Africa can achieve today.”

Moving from her home in Cape Town, Toya Delazy is now an independent artist based in London. Her new music reflects these changes and the highlights the importance of resilience, strength and determination.

“No Follow is about following your intuition and allowing the desires of your soul to have chief control over the course of your life. When you move with your soul, you embrace your destiny. I took a leap of faith and left my home in Cape Town in June 2015. I left my family, friends and fans to begin all over again in London. My soul wanted this and if I didn’t do it I wouldn’t be as fulfilled as I am today,” says Toya.

She goes on to describe Diamonds In The Rough as a powerful track that shows the impact youth can make when they stand together.

“It’s about us young people living in the city. We’re talented and we bond with each other. Our soul dream is to make it, but somehow society doesn’t make it easy for us to be ourselves and still succeed. Therefore we are diamonds in the rough. It’s to encourage us not to let go, and to never give up,” she says.

Each single features Toya’s signature sound which she describes as a mix of Jazz, Electro and Hip Hop, otherwise known as JEHP. She believes they form an important narrative that will help people understand her as an artist in 2017.

“Empowerment has always been my sole motivation to create music. As I grow artistically and travel the world, I open my mind to new cultures and I learn more about myself and about this life. It’s become a prerogative to infuse this energy back to society and empower others to lead themselves,” says Toya.

Not only do these tracks set the tone for her upcoming album, Toya believes it gives fans insight into her creative process.

“From breaking into the scene branded as a pure pop-star to finally being able to fuse my music the way I hear it and feel it in my soul, has been a major achievement for me. I’m not just singing my own tracks, I’m writing them and producing them. I’m involved in every step of the creative process, and I feel as though I’m using 100% of my talent. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience,” she concludes.

No Follow and Diamonds In The Rough are available on iTunes.
