THE JOHANNESBURG INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL IS BACK

The Johannesburg International Comedy Festival (JICF)  presented by 947 returns to the city of gold with a mouthwatering feast of world-class comedy over four consecutive days of side-splitting funny.

The biggest independent international comedy festival in Africa, JICF rolls out its third edition with over 40 local, continental and international comedians taking over the Nelson Mandela and The Fringe Theatres at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, from Thursday, 14 March to Sunday, 17 March 2019.

Audiences are in for a mouthwatering treat with international superstars such as the enigmatic Dane Baptiste from the UK; Britain’s Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda from Malawi and the finest comedian performing in the United Arab Emirates, Ali Al Sayed forms part of the first wave of internationals coming to our shores . More international acts are to be confirmed over the next few weeks.

Performing alongside our guest comedians will be some of Mzansi’s finest talents such as Loyiso Gola, John Vlismas, Tumi Morake, Conrad Koch and Chester Missing, Kagiso Lediga, Schalk Bezuidenhout amongst others to be confirmed in due course. In keeping with its commitment to providing a platform for young and exciting talent, JICF is proud to provide Tsitsi Chiumya, KG Mokgadi and Prinswith their debut showings at the Festival.

What better way to laugh at all the goings-on than to do so with some of the funniest men and women performing in comedy today,” says Takunda Bimha, Founder and Director for JICF.

With more comedians to be added to the lineup, more shows coming to the programme and in an exciting development, the Festival moving into its new home – the iconic Joburg Theatre; this may turn out to be the best instalment of  JICFyet.

The lineup of Festival shows so far is as follows:

League of Nations – hosted by Conrad Koch & Chester Missing (South Africa) Featuring hilarious comedians from all over the world, this show has no borders.

A no holds barred comedy show that will be too raw for television and will carry an age restriction of no under 21s.

“Following the groundbreaking success of the first two installments, we are very excited to be turning three with another giant celebration of comedy and hope to create the most compelling festival yet for our patrons.  We cannot wait for audiences to experience the exciting lineup of comedians that we have assembled, the shows will be on fire,” Bimha concludes.

The Johannesburg International Comedy Festival takes place at the Joburg Theatre, from Thursday, 14 March to Sunday, 17 March 2019.
