EXPLORING DUBAI ON A BUDGET: SIX GREAT TIPS TO MAKE IT LAST

by

Dubai, known for its skyscrapers, opulence and luxury, can also be great fun for budget-conscious travellers. In the first quarter of 2025, the city attracted more than 8 million international travellers, recording a 7% increase in visitors compared to 2024.

From affordable accommodation and free activities to smart shopping and dining options, there are numerous ways to save money and find value in this vibrant city. Here are six affordable travel tips to help you enjoy Dubai on a budget:

  1. Off-season opportunities

Peak season in Dubai is during the cooler months from November to March. Travelling during the off-peak season ensures that you avoid crowded and high-cost experiences, and you can take full advantage of the massive deals, discounts and promos that are abundant during Dubai’s summer time. Travellers can explore plenty more adventures and activities at a fraction of the usual price.

  1. Dubai Summer Surprises

The 28th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises is taking place this year from 27 June to 31 August. This edition features countless ways for travellers to maximise their summer fun experience at pocket-friendly prices.

With unbeatable prize draws, shopping discounts of up to 70%, iconic music festivals like Beat the Heat DXB, and hotel staycations that offer kid-friendly packages and affordable honeymoon suites for couples, visitors can enjoy summer at a bargain.

  1. Budget-friendly accommodation

With hundreds of 5 and 4-star hotels available, travellers are spoilt for choice when it comes to affordability and luxury. Families and groups can find great deals under $100 per night, which include free access to various attractions across Dubai, depending on the package.

Accommodation in tourist hotspots can be pricier than in areas of Old Dubai. However, these areas are near metro stations, and provide convenience and ease when travelling to the mainland.

  1. Dubai on-and-off

Hopping from one location to the next can cost a pretty penny, but Dubai offers affordable public transport. The Dubai metro, trams, and a new sight-seeing bus – the Dubai On-and-off – offer a convenient way of exploring the city.

Bus routes cover eight main attractions across the city, giving visitors easy access to sites like the Museum of the Future, Gold Souk and Dubai Frame. This is ideal for families, as the ticket costs $9 per person for a full day.

  1. Local eateries

With nearly 200 nationalities, Dubai’s culinary scene hosts a variety of cultural flavours. Plenty of restaurants, bistros, cafes and bars offer gourmet dishes at an affordable rate – from three-course dishes under $40 per person to authentic Mediterranean meals.

Following the locals can lead you to some amazing hidden gems. With a rich cultural atmosphere, travellers can find homegrown dishes in local restaurants and street food stalls that sell Emirati staples.

  1. Affordable, free activities

A good time doesn’t need to cost a fortune, instead of buying tickets for each individual attraction, cut costs by up to 60%, with a Dubai Pass. Get access to more than 30 attractions with an All-inclusive Pass or get an Explorer Pass valid for two months.

For a tour around the city, visitors can take a traditional abra ride through the Al Fahidi Historical District, stroll along Jumeirah Beach, or explore the vibrant Kite Beach.
