TCL, the No.1 brand locally for Mini LED TV unit sales in H2 2025, is proud to announce that it will be the first to introduce its groundbreaking SQD-Mini LED (Super Quantum Dot Mini LED) display technology to South African consumers in 2026.
SQD-Mini LED represents a revolutionary advancement in Mini LED performance. It transforms conventional local dimming into ultra-precise dimming zones, delivering unrivalled control over highlights and deep shadows while achieving cinema-grade colour accuracy.
While RGB Mini LED, the previous generation of tech, represented an important step, SQD-Mini LED moves two generations ahead by combining Super Quantum Dot technology with an advanced Ultra Colour Filter Panel. This eliminates colour crosstalk, dramatically improves colour accuracy, and delivers superior light control, making SQD-Mini LED the new pinnacle of performance.
Unlike outdated RGB Mini LED backlights that attempt to change the light source itself, TCL’s SQD-Mini LED uses a highly refined blue LED backlight paired with newly formulated quantum dots and TCL’s proprietary Ultra Colour Filter Panel to eliminate colour crosstalk and significantly boost both colour gamut and quantum dot accuracy, delivering up to a 33% improvement in colour gamut and a 69% improvement in quantum dot precision compared to previous generations.
Flagship SQD models, such as the X11L, can achieve peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits with more than 20,000 local dimming zones (on the 98″ model), full coverage of BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, and wide viewing angles via the WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel. The result is stunning HDR performance, true-to-life colours, no risk of burn-in, and a slimmer, more elegant design — all at a level that redefines what premium TV viewing means.
What truly sets TCL’s SQD-Mini LED apart is the superior panel technology. TCL’s specially engineered screen and anti-reflection coating produce noticeably crisper, clearer images with reduced glare and enhanced native contrast – even in bright South African living rooms. This combination delivers deeper blacks, more vibrant colours and smoother motion without the burn-in risk associated with other premium technologies.
Crucially, TCL is making this flagship-level performance accessible. By pairing SQD-Mini LED’s superior picture quality with Audio By Bang & Olufsen full-range audio systems, consumers can now experience cinema-grade visuals and immersive sound at prices that challenge conventional premium categories, opening up high-end TV technology to far more South African households.
Mr Mike Chen, General Manager at TCL South Africa, says “South African consumers deserve premium picture and sound without the premium price tag. As the No.1 brand in Mini LED units sold in SA in H2 2025, TCL is proud to be the first to bring SQD-Mini LED technology to the local market. With exceptional brightness, cinema-grade colour accuracy, precise light control and immersive performance, SQD-Mini LED will change how South Africans experience movies, sport, gaming and everyday entertainment, all at pricing that makes true flagship quality more accessible than ever before.”
As TCL continues to lead advancements in Mini LED and QLED technologies globally, the arrival of SQD Mini LED in South Africa reinforces the brand’s commitment to delivering world-class innovation, performance and value to local consumers.
SQD-Mini LED will debut in TCL’s 2026 premium lineup which include; full range Audio By Bang & Olufsen TVs as well as Google Smart Home Appliances. More details on product availability and local retail partners will be announced in due course.
