A major revamp at Ster-Kinekor’s The Zone @Rosebank cinema complex has resulted in three of the cinemas undergoing a full-body makeover.
Now completed, two of the cinemas have reopened as Cine Prestige theatres, the ultimate luxury ’business class’ version of the cinema experience, in addition to the existing Cine Prestige cinema. The third cinema has been transformed into a bright and colourful Kids’ Cinema, offering all the fun along with the best films on the big screen for younger audiences.
“Following the recent opening of two of our cinemas as SKX-PERIENCE interactive spaces in partnership with Jozi X, we have now added to the viewing experience with the two new luxurious Cine Prestige cinemas and our popular Kids’ Cinema format, offering movie-goers a variety of viewing options in one destination,” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor.
The exclusive Cine Prestige format epitomises film-viewing heaven and pure luxury rolled into one. The two new cinemas are fitted with a combination of single and double red leather recliner chairs that ooze lavish comfort and opulence. They will also be served by the existing Cine Prestige Lounge area, where customers can enjoy drinks and snacks including beer and wine, or have them served at their seat in the cinema.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our movie-lovers to our Cine Prestige cinemas for the most luxurious big screen movie experience. When the doors open, guests can savour the premium cinema experience, turning great moments into something even greater,” says Wylie.
Cine Prestige is the go-to cinema to enjoy movies with a touch of luxury, and audiences can enjoy a host of movie titles and different genres over the next few weeks, including Black Phone 2, Tron, and Good Fortune from 17 October, with Shelby Oaks joining the party from 24 October.
In another exciting development and following the success of its popular Kids Cinema concept at several other sites, Ster-Kinekor is adding this funky and colourful cinema experience at The Zone.
“This offering gives younger audiences their very own special ‘me time’ at the movies – not to mention a chance for parents to sit back and relax while their children are being kept busy and entertained,” says Wylie. “We are very excited to bring this movie experience for children to The Zone. The Kids’ Cinema provides the perfect environment for them to spend a few hours, enjoying the entertainment on the big screen or the fun-filled, playground-like facilities inside the cinema.”
What makes it different is that it’s designed specifically to cater to the needs of youngsters – it has its own foyer area with activity tables and catering counter, brightly coloured beanbag seats (with bigger seats for the ‘big’ children at the back of the cinema!), and a slide and ball pool.
The two movies launching the Kids’ Cinema from 17 October is the delightfully popular Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, and the anime, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales (PG7-9), which is set in the magnificent medieval European world depicted through masterpieces of art. Next up to keep the young ones entertained is the animation movie Stitch Head, in which a small creature is awoken by a mad professor in a castle to protect the professor’s other creations from the townspeople of Grubbers Nubbin. It releases on 24 October.
Younger cinemagoers can also make the most of the loyalty programmes on offer for great value, with free movies until 19:00 for under-18s who are Discovery Vitality members, while The Epic Deal for SK Club members (free sign-up) gets you a movie ticket, drink and popcorn for just R149,90 from Monday to Friday.
