Oscar winner Charlize Theron is set to show her comedic flair when she returns to Saturday Night Live (SNL) as host – 14 years after her debut appearance (Comedy Central, DStv Channel 122, Saturday 25 May @ 21:00 CAT).

The multitalented “Monster” actress and director, soon to be seen in comedy Western “One Million Ways to Die in the West”, opens the show with a humorous ditty about her lack of singing talent – a theme echoed in a song by cast members Sasheer Zamata, Cecily Strong and Keenan Thompson, who praise her acting, ballet dancing and charity work, while deploring the fact that she cannot sing…

Throwing herself into the spirit of the occasion, Theron embraces the inspired SNL silliness, skits and dressing-up with enthusiasm, adopting numerous guises both in and out of character including a bikini bombshell, a mousy cat lover and a foreign tourist.

Other treats to look out for include a guest appearance by legendary TV anchor and host of “The ViewBarbara Walters, a hilarious mock dialogue between First Lady Michelle Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton on motherhood, and a musical interlude from rock duo The Black Keys performing their songs “Fever” and “Bullet in the Brain”.

Hosting Saturday Night Live can be a nail-biting experience for even the most polished of performers but the show’s massive popular fan base, iconic comedic heritage and influential take on popular culture means that A-listers are falling over themselves to be involved.  At the top of the show, the host is expected to perform a live comic monologue before participating in various skits and musical interludes with the SNL cast, braving nutty costumes, crazy accents, surreal scenarios and show surprises (which have included live walk-on by US President Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton participating in a skit with Amy Poehler, among others). Recent hosts have included Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Renner, Bruno Mars, Jonah Hill, Jim Parsons, Bruce Willis, Jimmy Fallon, Melissa McCarthy and Justin Bieber.

Saturday Night Live airs every Saturday night on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) at 21:00  CAT.
