The Hunt For South Africa’s Best Unsigned Musical Talent Is Back

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (August 12, 2015) – Today, Converse announces that the hugely successful Get Out Of The Garage platform is back with a bang. Last year, unsigned local bands from a variety of genres submitted their demos to Converse via SoundCloud and YouTube links for the chance to record at the Converse Rubber Tracks Studio in New York. First there was Matthew Mole, then there was Yorke (Jordi) and in 2014, Early Hours took the title of best unsigned band.

Converse is again on the hunt for the best unsigned talent in South Africa – whether you are in a band or a solo artist a punk rocker, electro fundi, kickass proponent of kwaito, or a hip hop playa, Converse wants to hear your sound.

From August 12 until September 4, visit http://goo.gl/JQwYsi and upload a SoundCloud version of your best track. Then on September 15, judges Catherine Grenfell, Okmalumkoolkat and Darryl Torr will narrow down the entries to SA’s Top 10 unsigned artists. Converse will then showcase these acts, where music fans from South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland can vote for their favourite.

Because we have the greatest fans in the world, it is only fitting that they are rewarded for making an artist’s dreams come true. Simply by voting for their favourite band, fans have a chance to experience three gigs over seven days in New York City.

Our talented Top 10 will also get a taste of what it is like to record their track, as we bring our Brooklyn based studio team to Johannesburg for a pop-up Converse Rubber Tracks Studio experience, which will be based at Open Room studios in Greenside.

Since its Brooklyn opening in July 2011, Converse Rubber Tracks has provided the incredible opportunity for artists to record in a state-of-the-art studio at no cost. Converse Rubber Tracks supports artistic expression by allowing musicians across all genres an opportunity to record for free and retain all the rights to their music. In the last three years, Converse has brought the Converse Rubber Tracks pop-up studio from Brooklyn to great music cities such as Toronto, Austin, Montreal, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Paris, Beijing and Mexico City.

Get Out Of The Garage, share your music and showcase your talent at http://goo.gl/JQwYsi and if you want to take the conversation to Twitter, remember to use the hashtag #GOOTG2015. The overall winner will be announced on the October 14, 2015.
