THE CRADLE OF FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL THIS AUGUST

by

Finally a celebration of premium craft wine and gin made by women wine and spirit makers… Loving it as we countdown to next month.

Some of the country’s best craft wine and gin – made by female wine and spirit makers – will be showcased at the upcoming Cradle of Food & Wine Festival that is being held on Saturday, August 19, in celebration of Women’s Month.

This not-to-be-missed event, which is open to the whole family, takes place at the beautiful Cradle Boutique Hotel in the Cradle of Humankind in conjunction with leading Johannesburg wine outlet Wine Menu run by Corlien Morris.

The premium wines on show include those by Catherine Marshal (Elgin); Swartland’s Huis van Chevallerie (winemaker Christa von La Chevallerie) and Kloovenburg (winemaker Jolandie Fouché); Stellenbosch’s Haskell (winemaker Rianie Strydom); Franschhoek’s La Bri (winemaker Irene Waller); Greyton’s Lismore (owner and winemaker Samantha O’Keefe) and Waterkloof wine estate in Somerset West (Nadia Barnard).

Also at the show will be Callan Williams who will present her lauded handcrafted wine brand The Garajeest and Carla Pauw from Stellenbosch who will show both her Saltare wines and olive oils.

Those attending will also get to meet gin-makers Shanna-Rae Wilby from Time Anchor Distillery and Glyn Fench who makes Flowstone in the Magaliesberg area and – most importantly – get to taste their product via a variety of cocktails.

As a bonus, the festival will also showcase olive oils from Saltare, Kloovenburg and Namaqua Olives, all made by women. Entry into the wine and gin tasting costs R75 per adults (no under 18s will be permitted in the tasting room).

Families who attend will be able to taste the wines and gins while their children can join the Cradle Explorers Club, which will have a trained guide to take them on a two-hour nature walk. The cost is R80 per child and includes a picnic box!

Following the tastings, guests will have the option of purchasing a picnic hamper (bring your own blanket) or pre-booking a lunch at the Cradle Boutique Hotel restaurant where they can choose from the a-la-carte menu. All wines at the tasting event will be on offer to purchase and drink with lunch or the picnic as well as to take home. If required, Wine Menu can deliver purchased wines for a small additional fee.

Live music will add to the relaxed atmosphere.

Says Cradle Boutique Hotel’s GM Wayne Fisher: “There are so many amazing women wine and gin makers that we thought we would celebrate their work and their products in August as part of Women’s Month.”

“And what better way to do it than to invite people to spend the day with us – in one of Gauteng’s most scenic venues – relaxing, eating good food and drinking great wines and gins,” adds Wine Menu’s Corlien Morris.

Numbers are limited so booking is essential. No food or pets to be brought into the venue. Tickets for the wine and gin tasting only can be purchased from webtickets at R75pp for over 18s. Go to https://www.webtickets.co.za/events/festival/cradle-of-food-and-wine-festival/1472755106
