TSHEGO MOSUPYE NAMED AS THE NEW MTV BASE VJ WINNER

by

Twenty-six-year-old Tshego Mosupye from Pretoria has been crowned the winner of the MTV Base VJ Search in partnership with Breezer at a thrilling finale party in Soweto.

Tshego – who maintained his cool during tough challenges as he stepped into first place over strong competition from more than 8000 hopefuls –now has the opportunity to meet and mingle with the biggest music stars in the world at international award shows and attend the best parties courtesy of a 12-month contract with MTV Base. His prize package includes an Edgars Active voucher to the value of R20 000 and accessories from Jabari.

This is the beginning for him, he believes: “It’s not only about the links and swag, there is a higher responsbibility about how we serve our fans. As a VJ one must be fully aware of what’s happening in the streets and current affairs in relation to the music. I am thrilled and humbled to share the stage with an iconic brand as MTV Base, a channel that is always ahead of our time and always shifting youth culture. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow – the possibilities for me are endless!”

The final episode of MTV Base VJ Search was broadcast on MTV Base (DStv channel 322) on Sunday where a triumphant Tshego rose to the title ahead of fellow finalists Kuhle Adams and Gontse Makgoba.

Tshego reveals that his tough exterior is sometimes just a front: “People might think I have it all figured out. They don’t realise that I’m the guy who is inspired by people and this motivates me. I look forward to revealing the real me – not the dude that looks like he has it all together, because I don’t really, not always.”

He discloses what he does in his spare time. “I love fitness – one of the methods I reached out to to break free from my bout of depression. I read and I love creating and designing clothes. Whatever I do, I always give it my all and do the best I can. I am inspired to become my greatest self.”

Says Monde Twala, Vice President for BET, Youth and Music for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa: “Youth Culture is the heartbeat that drives our business. MTV Base remains on trend and continues to nurture fledgling talent into on-screen superstars and we see Tshego as another incredible local success story. Winning the MTV Base VJ Search has already transformed his life and we look forward to his journey in the next year. Our VIMN Africa vision for the continent is to work towards unlocking the potential of our homegrown talent.”

Category Head for Breezer, Asia Middle East and African markets, Anshuman Goenkasaid: “Tshego showed what it means to truly live your life in colour! He was a real fighter who would never give up. He embodies a passion for life and we wish him well as he builds his brand.”
