AFROPUNK ANNOUNCES TREASURE HUNT AHEAD OF LINEUP

by
AFROPUNK made its African debut on 30 and 31 December 2017 as 20 000 people from all over South Africa and the world descended on Constitution Hill in Johannesburg to bring in the New Year in spectacular style. Revellers partied to epic performances by Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals, Laura Mvula, Thebe, Nakhane, King Tha Vs Blk Jks, Rude Boyz, Sho Madjozi, Blitz The Ambassador, Dear Ribane, Jojo Abot, Petite Noir, DJ Kenzhero and tonnes more talent. AFROPUNK Joburg is back this year at Constitution Hill on 30 and 31 December.

In the lead up to the big talent announcement, AFROPUNK will host a Treasure Hunt with a difference. This exploration will give potential festival goers clues and quotes to guess the lineup before it is announced, and give them a chance to win a VIP trip to AFROPUNK Joburg 2018. The Treasure Hunt is on at www.afropunkfest.com/johannesburg

AFROPUNK happens yearly in Paris, Brooklyn, Atlanta and Johannesburg. This 13-year-old festival is an influential community of young people of all backgrounds interested in music, art, film, lifestyle sports, fashion, photography and more. They are the influencers, creatives and tastemakers who were once seen as outsiders, but who now directly affect pop culture.

AFROPUNK Joburg’s influencers will be announcing these Treasure Hunt clues and quotes. Sho Madjozi and Manthe Ribane (who will join Nakhane on stage at AFROPUNK Brooklyn at the end of August) are announcing clues as are artists YoungstaCPT,  Muzi and Nomisupasta, comedian Kagiso Lediga, radio DJ Smash Afrika, illustrator Slaying Goliath, DJ and producer Da Kruk, anthropologist, poet and author Lebohang Masango, Creative Director Hussain Van Roos, (trans) personality Glow, DJ Deniece Marz, dancer and choreographer Kieron Jina, hair curator Nikiwe Dlova of Own Your Crown, gay rights/feminist activist Thokozani Ndaba, producer and DJ Jakinda, youth activist, Amonge Sinxoto of Black Board Africa and photographers Kgomotso Neto, Mpumelelo Macu and Andile Buka.

These influential South Africans embody this year’s theme THE PEOPLE RESIST, which is a call to arms against racism, patriarchy and any form of hate.

Aside from major music talent from all over the globe, the festival encompasses Bites and Beats, Activism Row as well as the chance to earn tickets via our Earn a Ticket programme. In the build up to the event, there is also Battle Of The Bands which seeks to unearth new music talent. Last year’s winners were Stiff Pap and Automatic Live.
