AKA’S ORCHESTRA IN ETHEKWINI ANNOUNCES LINE UP

by

On 22 March 2019, the SUPAMEGA also known as AKA, shutdown The Sun Square in Pretoria, with his first series of the AKA ORCHESTRA, accompanied by a live 30 piece orchestra and band – a hip-hop first. The evening was put together in collaboration with his long-term event partners, Vertex Events, to resounding applause. The first orchestra masterpiece was a time capsule of AKA’s 11 year journey on the Mzansi music scene – with special features from most of his collaboration partners – paying special tribute to fallen SA hip hop maestro, Linda “PRO” Mkhize.

AKA and Vertex Events have once again teamed up, partnering with Durban’s entertainment giants, AFROTAINMENT to deliver another captivating orchestra evening: AKA ORCHESTRA ETHEKWINI, with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, on November 2, at the Durban ICC.

“There is nothing out there like performing for a Durban crowd. So it made absolute sense to deliver the orchestra to them. I am looking forward to it. Already with the pop ups we’ve down around Durban, the reception has been electric. From being at taxi ranks, malls and on radio interviews. Durban people are very warm in spirit.” Says AKA.

The production of the show has had some of the best creatives working on it behind the scenes and it promises to be another one for the books.

Thato Segaole from Vertex Events said: “Following the 30 piece orchestral production, we have learnt what to improve on and what to do differently. This time around we’re putting together a 44-piece orchestra and this is one surely not to be missed. We expect nothing short of a great production and a mind-blowing musical experience with AKA, the orchestra and all the other great acts on this super line-up.”

The support acts have been carefully chosen with palette of the Durban crowd in mind, namely DJ Zinhle, DJ Tira, Ricky Rick, Woobly, Meech, Benny Maverick, Beast, Aubrey Qwana, Dladla Mshunqisi, Tipcee and Moozlie as the host of the event

“The lineup is an exciting one for me as I wanted to showcase acts that have a uniquely KZN flavour – with different musicality to mine, which challenges me as an artist to come out of my comfort zone. It was quite important to choose acts with specific focus on artists from the province and importantly unearthing new talent by giving them the platform to partake in. I respect each artist that will grace the stage that night, because they’re the pioneers in their unique way and spaces.  It’s going to be a thrilling night.” Says AKA.

Tickets are available on Computicket for R200.
