Disney Channel’s unique new family comedy series “Gabby Duran & the Unsittables” recently premiered on Disney Channel and the kids love it (DStv channel 303).
The new series introduces 13-year-old Gabby Duran, played by multitalented actress and musician Kylie Cantrall, who inadvertently lands a job babysitting an unruly group of VIP extraterrestrial children disguised as everyday kids.
Resourceful and courageous, Gabby steps up to the challenge to protect these youngsters and their secret identities and prove she’s the best babysitter in the galaxy.
Cantrall became a YouTube sensation as host of the series “Hello Kylie,” where she interviewed musicians such as Pentatonix, Matty B. and Jordyn Jones. She also released music videos including “Snake,” “Feature from Quavo,” “Abraca DAH Brah” and “Sleep is for Suckas.” Her most recent video, “That’s What I’m Talkin’ Bout,” was released through Disney Channel Voices, an initiative to showcase new music. Cantrall has also made guest appearances on the Disney Channel series “Bizaardvark” and “Raven’s Home.”
Starring alongside Cantrall is Maxwell Acee Donovan (“Good Kids”) as Gabby’s bestie and conspiracy theorist Wesley; Coco Christo (“We Take the Low Road”) as Gabby’s overachieving little sis Olivia; Nathan Lovejoy (“The Code”) as the wacky Principal Swift; Valery Ortiz (“Switched at Birth”) as Gabby’s caring and career-driven mom Dina; and Callan Farris (“Kings”) as Jeremy, a shape-shifting alien and Gabby’s first babysitting assignment.

Babysitting aliens sounds like a pretty cool job, right? “The aliens in the show are incredible,” admits Kylie. “The main alien in the show is ‘the blob’, but there are lots of different extra-terrestrials to see. There’s a telepath, which I really like. There’s a blue warrior, which I really, really, really like. Oh, and there are Mungos, too. Mungos are weird aliens that have fangs, long fingernails and yellow eyes. They look really cool!”

GABBY DURAN & THE UNSITTABLES IS SECRETLY SHOT IN VANCOUVER!
“Here’s a fun fact for you,” reveals Kylie. “We shoot the show in Canada, but it’s set in a made-up town called Havensburg, which is supposed to be in the USA. I moved to Vancouver for six months to shoot Gabby Duran & The Unsittables. It’s been an amazing experience because Vancouver is full of fun things to do. I love to explore the city and find unique places.”

KYLIE SINGS THE SHOW’S THEME TUNE!
Not only does Kylie Cantrall play the lead role in Gabby Duran & The Unsittables, but the talented Disney Channel star also sings the show’s theme tune. “The song is called I Do My Thing and it’s really cool,” admits Kylie. “When I booked the show, I was really excited at the idea of singing on it. I’m a singer, so it was perfect for me. It was really amazing to shoot the video for the song, too. It’s a throwback ‘90s video. You can check it out online. It’s epic!”

Prepare for a chuckle-fest when you tune into the show. “Gabby Duran & The Unsittables will absolutely make you laugh out loud,” giggles Kylie. “There is so much humour in the show – and the jokes are for everyone. There are lots of gags and giggles, as well as dry humour. There’s a lot of humour for the kids. There’s a lot of humour for the adults. There’s a really good variety of laughs!”

THE MAGIC OF DISNEY BRINGS THE SHOW TO LIFE!
There’s a lot of magic and computer-generated wizardry that goes into an intergalactic show like Gabby Duran & The Unsittables. “Whenever you see me talking to a crazy-looking alien in the show, I’m usually just talking to myself when we shoot the scene,” explains Kylie. “In those scenes, there’s usually a green ball of tape on set that will tell me where I need to look. There are no real aliens on set with me!”

THERE ARE GAGGLES OF GIGGLES BEHIND THE SCENES!
“We’re always laughing on set,” giggles Kylie. “Especially Coco and me. Coco Christo is the name of the actress who plays Gabby’s younger sister in the show – and she is hilarious. At one point, Coco had the hiccups and she tried her best to make it through a very serious scene – but she would hiccup in the middle of every line. It was so funny that I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. Pretty soon, the whole room lost it!”

COCO CHRISTO HAS THE COOLEST DRESSING ROOM!
Behind the scenes, each of the actors has a dressing room where they can learn their lines and relax. “Out of everyone in the cast, Coco has the best dressing room,” admits Kylie. “Honestly, it’s the best. Coco and her mum are really great at decorating, so her room has fairy lights and a cute little carpet. My dressing room isn’t cute at all. It’s very messy; just like my bedroom at home!”

KYLIE TACKLED SEVEN AUDITIONS TO WIN THE LEAD ROLE!
It wasn’t an easy task to land the lead role of Gabby Duran in Disney Channel’s cool new comedy. “I had about seven auditions in total,” admits Kylie. “But to be honest, I feel like this was one of the first audition processes where I wasn’t nervous. In acting school, they give you lots of audition tips. They say things like, ‘Only wear solid colours to the audition.’ And, ‘Be exactly like the character.’ This time, I didn’t listen. I thought to myself, ‘I’m not going to wear solid colours; I’m going to wear striped shirts. And I’m just going to be completely myself.’ I guess the casting directors really liked it because I got the job!”

RIHANNA WOULD BE KYLIE’S DREAM GUEST STAR!
When it comes to special guests on the show, Kylie has a musical dream that she’d love to see come true. “If I could have anyone guest star on Gabby Duran, it would have to be Rihanna,” Kylie explains. “I absolutely love Rihanna! She’s literally my favourite artist in the world. Rihanna is a singer. She’s into fashion. She can act. I’d love to see Rihanna in Havensburg!”

IT’S A VERY MUSICAL SET!
The cast and crew have a ton of fun behind the scenes. “Whenever we’re not working on set, I’m always hanging out with Coco,” reveals Kylie. “Coco is like my little sister. We’re the bestest friends in the world! We make videos and we joke around. We make random songs and we hug a lot. We’re always singing, too. We love, love, love music.”
