LEGENDARY LOST BOYS HEADLINING BACK TO THE CITY

by

Following a 12-year success and a two-year hiatus where the festival took place online on two consecutive editions to adjust with covid rules, Africa’s biggest Hip-Hop Festival is thrilled to announce that Back To The City Festival is back and has rebranded to Hennessy Back To The City International Hip Hop Festival following the announcement that Hennessy has become the headline sponsor for the event.

The festival will, once again, see the streets of Newtown in Johannesburg filled with the sights and sounds of hip hop in a one-day event featuring some of the biggest names in local and international Hip-Hop talent.

The festival will take place on the 1st of October 2022 and will feature over 100 acts, 3 stages, food and clothing stalls, a basketball court, a skate park, live graffiti artists, b-boys and the SA Hip-Hop Summit that is set to take place on the 24th of September and will feature talks, practical lessons and a great panelist of industry giants at the South African Hip Hop Museum inside Museum Africa in Newtown.

In 2019, the festival attracted 20 000 attendees from all over Africa under the Hip-Hop umbrella but unfortunately had to be postponed and take place online virtually through our online platforms over the past two years due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Osmic Menoe, Ritual Media Group Director said “We’re pleased to have the festival happening again after two years, it has always been there to bring opportunities and expose South African talent to the world but most importantly to bring employment to the youth. This year we’re doing no different with the support of our sponsors, people can expect the best edition of the festival by far as what we’ve planned is going to be super epic and a festival not to be missed.

The 15th edition of Back To The City is set to bring old and new generations together, from the city of Joburg and beyond, the energy is always incredible and the Hip-Hop culture is always represented well. We also would like to thank everyone that has kept their love for us going even after 15 years of Back To The City as well as everyone that has been working tirelessly towards this milestone.”

This years’ event promises to be the greatest one by far as it happens at a time where South African Hip Hop is making a come back . Local artists include A-Reece, Blxckie, Big Zulu, Emtee and legendary group Alaska and Mapaputsi as their heritage acts alongside DJ Far Fae, 2Lee Stark, Sprkz, Bibi Mbangula, Mr Selwyn and Ms Supa as hosts.

We were also promised a number of surprise acts as well as international acts as we celebrate South African Hip Hop and practise our Freedom Of Movement which is the theme this year.

Be a part of the movement and keep up with the updates as they go live daily on #BTTC2022. For further information and updates, visit www.backtothecityfestival.com
