UNIVERSITY ROADSHOW TO EQUIP 10 000 STUDENTS WITH CAREER READY SKILLS

by

As thousands of South African students prepare to enter an increasingly competitive job market, the University Kick Start Roadshow is launching a nationwide initiative designed to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping students with the practical skills they need to confidently transition into the world of work.

The roadshow will visit more than 15 universities & collages across South Africa during August and September 2026, reaching over 10,000 students through engaging, practical and interactive career readiness sessions.

Founded by Boitumelo Motsepe, the campaign was created in response to a challenge experienced by many graduates’ leaving university academically qualified, but without the practical knowledge needed to secure employment and build successful careers.

Rather than focusing solely on qualifications, the University Kick Start Roadshow helps students develop the skills employers are increasingly looking for, including:

  • Professional CV development
  • Building a compelling portfolio using university work and projects
  • Personal branding and professional presence
  • Networking strategies
  • Job application guidance
  • AI-powered career tools and workplace readiness
  • Professional communication and email etiquette

“Too many talented graduates leave university/collage with potential, but not always with the confidence or practical knowledge to position themselves for opportunities,” says Boitumelo Motsepe, Founder of the Kick Start Roadshow.

“Kick Start exists to help students become opportunity-ready before graduation. We want every student to leave our sessions knowing how to present themselves professionally, communicate their value, and compete confidently in today’s job market.”

Unlike traditional career talks, the University Kick Start Roadshow is designed as an interactive experience, combining practical learning, live demonstrations, competitions, giveaways and direct engagement with industry professionals and leading brands.

The involvement of partners such as Content Factory, Canderel and Volkswagen South Africa (VW SA) to name a few further strengthens the initiative’s impact, bringing real-world industry presence directly to students and demonstrating how leading organisations are investing in the next generation of South African professionals.

The initiative also provides organisations with a meaningful platform to invest in youth development while building authentic connections with South Africa’s future workforce.

Corporate partners have the opportunity to participate through:

  • Campus activations
  • Product sampling
  • Career-focused brand engagement
  • Skills development initiatives
  • Graduate recruitment visibility
  • National media and digital exposure throughout the campaign

The campaign is currently welcoming strategic partners from a range of industries including financial services, automotive, telecommunications, FMCG, retail, technology, education and professional services that share a commitment to empowering South Africa’s next generation of professionals.

As youth unemployment continues to remain one of South Africa’s most pressing socio-economic challenges, initiatives like the University Kick Start Roadshow demonstrate how collaboration between education and industry can create meaningful impact.

By bringing together universities, businesses and students, the campaign aims not only to prepare graduates for employment, but to inspire confidence, unlock opportunity and contribute towards building a more work-ready generation.
