Following the announcement of the 2nd annual Youth Hip Hop Festival featuring headliner US artist Rick Ross last month, festival organizers Richie R Concepts and Kgolo Da Guru today officially opened ticket sales at Computicket. They also confirmed that the local line-up would be decided by public vote.

The annual picnic type festival supported by the Office of the Premier and the City of Durban will take place at the Moses Mahbida stadium on the 2nd of May this year. The festival will feature international artist Rick Ross alongside SA’s hip hop royalty to be confirmed in April.

For the first time ever South African fans will get a chance to vote for the local favorites who will then form the local line up alongside the international headliner. The competition to open for all fans across the country and opened to any credible South African hiphop artist. Voting is open until end March and the final lineup will be announced mid April. As an incentive, not only will voters get a chance to choose the line-up but will also stand a chance to  WIN tickets to the show. Show promoters confirmed today that they have reserved 10% of the targeted capacity for give-aways.

For those not lucky enough to have won, early bird tickets are now on sale and range from R380 for General Access tickets and R850 for the VIP experience. Please note tickets will only be available at Computicket this year and NO tickets sold at the door. VVIP Hospitality packages will be available for out-of-town guests to be announced next month.

This year’s event promises to have a star-studded line-up outdoing the success of 2014. The first Youth Hip Hop Festival took place last year with over 15 live acts performing to over 6000 people. This year promoter Richie R Concepts decided to spice it up a little bit and add an international act to the festivities to attract a bigger audience. Offering a wide scope of SA’s finest hip hop talent, this ‘first of its kind’ festival in South African will feature over 20 acts and personalities.

The festival also has government backing with clear messaging throughout the concert and all activation leading up to show day. The messaging ‘I DO RIGHT’ was created to encourage young people to always do the right thing, even when nobody is watching. Using music as the tool to get youth informed about their rights to build stronger leaders is a huge focus.

The festival hopes to attract over 15 000 revelers this year. Gates open at 12pm. Concert goers are allowed to bring cooler boxes before 4pm where after refreshments will be on sale.
