ACCLAIMED BODY WORLDS VITAL EXHIBITION OPENS SOON AT V&A WATERFRONT

More than 42 million people in over 100 cities across the globe have seen the trailblazing BODY WORLDS exhibition series. Soon the internationally-acclaimed BODY WORLDS Vital exhibition will be in Cape Town for a limited period only, opening on Woman’s Day, the 9 August and on show until 23 October. This exhibition is sure to sell out so patrons are encouraged to book now at bodyworldsvital.co.za

Proudly presented by Discovery, BODY WORLDS Vital is a completely new exhibition and allows visitors to see how lifestyle choices affect the body. It features 16 new full body plastinates (including the unique floating couple for adult viewing) which have never been seen before in Cape Town as well as over 160 organs, body parts and transparent body slices, which show the human body’s keenly intelligent design, explore how it functions, and see what happens when disease strikes.

The intriguing Anatomical Mirror makes its debut in Cape Town. This remarkable technology mimics the visitor’s body movements and virtually peels back layers of the human body to demonstrate the visitor’s anatomical structure. The Anatomical Mirror is a fascinating demonstration of how we are built, teaching both young and old whilst also inspiring layman or seasoned healthcare professional.

Presented by Discovery, Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS Vital exhibition is a completely new experience for visitors. “As an organisation that continually looks for new ways to help people live healthier lives, we believe Dr Gunther von Hagens’ groundbreaking preservation process offers people a real-life opportunity to experience the wonder of the human body,” says Discovery Health CEO, Dr Jonathan Broomberg. “A specific focus for Discovery is to give people relevant tools and support to take care of their health and wellness at every stage of their lives, and through preventive medicine and innovative lifestyle interventions, our aim is to help prevent the onset and manage health conditions affected by lifestyle choices,” adds Broomberg.

While on show in Johannesburg, the exhibition enjoyed rave reviews from visitors of all ages, school groups and members of the media. “I came out of the Body Worlds Vital exhibition at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown filled with awe,” says Jenny de Klerk, 48 Hours, Saturday Star. “Body Worlds (Vital) really brings everyman face to jarring face with his own mortality: it shows us that, at cellular and molecular level, we are all a complex assemblage of bones, muscles, blood vessels, nerves and other tissue: a humbling thought,” says the Financial Mail’s Christina Kennedy.

Brought to South Africa by Cape Town-based Great World Exhibitions, the bodies on display have been willed by donors who want to increase the public’s awareness of the human body. To date, more than 15,000 donors from around the world have bequeathed their bodies after death to Dr. von Hagens’ Institute for Plastination.

BODY WORLDS Vital is exceptionally popular with school groups who enjoy special discount options. So far, over 15 000 learners and teachers have visited the exhibition. Many of these students are studying biology and art. The exhibition is a must-see for anybody working in the health sector, for medical students and professionals alike, but also perfect for a family outing.

The exhibition is open every day of the week between 10h00 and 19h00. Avoid disappointment, book now. For more information and bookings, visit www.bodyworldsvital.co.za. ENDS
