Ladysmith Black Mambazo – Night of the Legends oncert

– A special 56th Anniversary Celebration –

Multi Grammy Award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo are coming to the city of Gold, to celebrate their 56th Anniversary, wowing audiences on music stages worldwide, in a special two days only concert to be held at The JOBURG THEATRE on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September. The shows starts at 7pm on Saturday the 10th and 3 pm on Sunday the 11th of September.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo first came together in the early 1960s under the gentle guidance of sweet-voiced Joseph Shabalala. His inspiration for the group came to him in a dream in which a choir of children sang and danced. Shabalala soon transferred that dream to real life when he formed Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is part of the time-honored tradition of South African Zulu male choral music called isicathamiya (derived from the Zulu word meaning “to walk or step on one’s toes lightly”) The roots of isicathamiya go back to the turn of the twentieth century when large groups of males left their homelands and families to find work and lived in all-male hostels in the cities and near the mines. These migrants didn’t form football teams or the like, but instead turned towards singing as a means to stay close to their roots.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo released their first album in 1973. They have since produced over 30 albums, including their highly successful collaboration on Paul Simon’s Graceland in 1986; an album that was one of the best-selling albums of the eighties globally.

They have also sold over 1 million albums in the UK alone of their Star and the Wiseman album with the much-loved Heinz commercial music Inkanyezi Nezazi.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo have been nominated 16 times for Grammy Awards, taking home the honors on four occasions. They have also won countless other awards across the globe.
The group have collaborated with international icons including the late Michael Jackson, Steve Wonder, Dolly Parton to name but a few. Locally they have collaborated with PJ Powers, The Soil, MiCasa, Zahara, Oliver Mtukudzi, Salif Keita and many others.
2015 marks the 55th year in music for Ladysmith Black Mambazo and are still going strong .
The Night of Legends concert promises to be an exclusive and intimate two day of non-stop nostalgia, taking the audience on a journey through their many successes – both locally and abroad spanning the last five decades.

Instantly recognizable hits like Homeless, Diamonds on the soles of her shoes, Nomathemba, Ofananaye, Lelilungelo, Phanse Emgodini and many others will provide an experience not to be missed.
