by

The Johannesburg International Comedy Festival gets underway in the Braamfontein precinct this weekend as the international talent arrives in the city.

We’ve started our engines and there’s no turning back now! The countdown has begun for Johannesburg’s premiere comedy event, The Johannesburg International Comedy Festival has kicked off.
Taking place this weekend, 31 March – 1 April, the event sees the largest contingent of the world’s funniest humans coming together to celebrate comedy and the universal language of laughter.

All the amazing talent on the line-up are thrilled to be part of the festival and ready to entertain South Africans. UK comedian Athena Kugblenu says this is her very first trip to South Africa and she is looking forward to it with much enthusiasm. “I am thrilled to be performing at JICF! It’s my first visit to South Africa so hopefully I’ll remember I’m there to perform as well as behave like an excited tourist. Though I have just seen you have a Lion Park and that is a very distracting thing for a Londoner.”
Imran Yusuf, Kenyan native but now also living in London, is also excited about his first visit to the country. “It is an honour to perform for a people and country that has been exemplary in overcoming apartheid and cultivating the arts together as a one people, he says.
To begin the weekends’ festivities, all the comedians will be welcomed at a launch event at Living Room in Maboneng. The second edition of JICF promises to be another world class comedy extravaganza – one not to be missed or you’ll be left with an epic case of FOMO!
