Change is the only constant, and Comair Limited is proud to present their latest offering of The Course at SLOW in the City. And what a wow it was with the who’s who of Jozi A listers attending the official opening last week.

Offering an accomplished dining and bar concept and an ever-evolving overture to the nature of change, much akin to the narrative of the very city it is located in; this new and exciting dining option at SLOW in the City will not only be open to the members of SLOW, but to the public as well.

The Course is an invitation to be inspired and surprised through its selection of dishes and cocktails; and focusing on the central idea that ‘Taste Changes Everything’, chefs and mixologists have created a menu to mirror the diverse environment The Course finds itself in, where local ingredients are showcased alongside global flavour trends from the very first bite.

Located diagonally opposite the Sandton Gautrain Station on the corner of West and Rivonia Road in Sandton, The Course will respond to its environment, reinventing itself through progressive seasonal offerings in both food and beverage. Each dining experience will be a transformation from the prior, driven by the seasonal liquor of choice and a responsive tasting menu.

Diners at The Course will not only have the choice of tapas style plates, but can indulge in a full sit-down menu spanning a selection of prime beef cuts, seafood and bistro style dishes. An inspired breakfast menu will be available from 7am on weekdays.

Upon launch, The Course will partner with The World’s Most Awarded Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Glenfiddich, for the initial instalment of the Quarterly Reserve.

With extraordinary care and attention, each Glenfiddich Single Malt is a work of perfection, ranging from the signature 12-Year-Old expression to rare, vintage and limited edition bottles. Glenfiddich whisky is renowned worldwide for its quality and consistency, and tapas style plates offer an exceptional and individual pairing experience alongside The Quarterly Reserve, which will change every three months.

While dining at The Course will certainly be a talking point, the bar selection will further demonstrate the playful nature of change through three elements:

The Collaboration Collection presents a provocative twist on classic cocktails, such as Old Fashioneds’ from all over the world, and Martinis’ both shaken and stirred.

Evert de Jong, an accomplished Mixologist with Molecular Bars, has refined the cocktail menu for The Course. De Jong explains: “At The Course, we have worked with the resident chefs to prepare house-made ingredients that are fresh and full of flavour. This has allowed us to create a truly signature menu, one that offers an invigorating look at classic cocktails, but also offers one-of-a-kind cocktails that are completely unique to the restaurant.”

Concept development for The Course at SLOW in the City was undertaken by UNKNOWN Design Agency, who assisted in developing the brand language and collateral elements for The Course.

With TONIC’S inspired expertise guiding the interior design of the space, the design inspiration, similarly to the offering of The Course, incorporates the central idea of change within the city context, as well as the guest promise to surprise and inspire. The design language is in line with that of SLOW in the City, as The Course is affiliated to the working space; and guests will recognize some original inspiration, explored in new and exciting ways, creating a venue that is both sophisticated and inviting, in the way that the best French Brasseries are. With adaptable lighting design, the atmosphere is set with a swift flick of the wrist to entirely change the mood.

Providing a stylish respite from the bustle of Sandton during the day, and a modern meeting place for fine cocktails and tapas between like-minded individuals, as the sun is setting into the evening.

The Sandton skyline at sunset provided the perfect backdrop for a fleet of flagship limousines that would transport guests to the undisclosed destination, for the anticipated launch of The Course at SLOW in the City last night.

Guests’ glasses were charged with champagne as they journeyed through SLOW in the City upon arrival, to be met by a human sensory installation by Dear Ribane, which provided perfect photo opportunities outside The Course.

With Zara Julius on vinyl, providing a sultry sound, an evening of surprise and inspiration awaited as businessmen and women and members of the media were hosted virtually with a voice in their headphones, before being treated to a sumptuous sensory pairing of cocktails and tapas, showcasing the first Quarterly Reserve – Glenfiddich.

With a promise to continue to inspire and surprise guests throughout the course of the evening, guests were treated to a musical morsel by actress and businesswoman, Mampho Brescia, which was completely unexpected.

This series of signature cocktails will be bottled and signed as the SLOW Collaboration Collection, and showcased in exquisite bottles accompanied by the finishing elements that every great cocktail needs

The Standard Selection at The Course provides no restrictions for guests, who may order their “usual” from the standard drinks menu at any time.

The pièce de résistance and final surprise for the evening was a decadent dessert installation, floating beneath a cloud of white balloons, which also revealed the virtual host as Media Personality, Taryn Louch.

With The Course at SLOW in the City situated in the heart of Africa’s richest square mile, the guestlist included influential Business people like Mandla Sibeko, Basetsana Kumalo and sister  Johanna Mukoki. Other guests included the gorgeous Jena Dover, award winning Terry Pheto, fashion guru Craig Jacobs, former Miss SA Vanessa Carreira-Coutroulis and hubby Chris, Unathi Msengana and IT girl Thembisa Mdoda.

Guests were gifted with a Glenfiddich Single Malt signature 12 Year Old expression at the end of the evening.

While eating is a need, enjoying it is an art and The Course at SLOW in the City will be open from 7am to 9pm on weekdays, and available for private events over weekends.
