Botswana Ignite! Initiative
Harvey’s visit to FAME Week Africa is part of a strategic initiative to boost Botswana’s creative economy. In partnership with the government of Botswana, Harvey is championing Botswana Ignite!, an ambitious programme aimed at nurturing local talent and fostering growth within Botswana’s television and video production industries.
This initiative seeks to invigorate Botswana’s creative landscape and position the country as a leading hub for film and television production in Africa.
Central to the Botswana Ignite! initiative are the Botswana TV Academy and the Botswana Wildlife Film School, offering cutting-edge training in television and film production. The programme includes masterclasses and immersive mentorship sessions led by international experts, covering essential creative and business skills for the industry. In addition, early next year, the Botswana government will launch the Botswana Film Commission and a significant rebate scheme, which will provide government supported financial incentives to bolster the production of international, film, documentary, and television series.
These initiatives aim to position Botswana as a creative hub, supporting local storytellers and facilitating their narratives to reach global audiences. They also seek to attract international productions to shoot in Botswana, driving economic growth through story export and foreign investment.
