So I finally got my hands on the Sony’s new WH-1000XM6 headphones recently and I am over the moon with my investment.

First impression when I opened the carry case they came in, so futuristic and elegant – it’s very compact boasting a magnetic closure, like no zip issues to deal with, loved it already .

The headphone themselves are as beautiful as they are impressive, I have come to learn over the past 3 weeks. The colour, a sand pink is what first caught my eye online – it’s a soft and curvy set, adorned in a muted pink colour that feels classy and understated rather than overly feminine or flashy. A refreshing change from my usual choice of black or silver, they feel like a luxury fashion accessory with personality which I absolutely love.

Let’s get into it, so you understand my excitement. Being a girl on the move, I have been through a few headphones in my time.

Comfort-wise, they are excellent. The stretchable ear cushions are soft and sit comfortably, fitting perfectly around the ears while the wider, soft Vegan leather head band feels well-padded without being bulky, making it great for long listening sessions. They come in a foldable design (a welcome return after the previous model which had removed it). Weighing just under 300g, they’re light enough for doing everything with them.

Since I got them earlier last month, I’ve worn them while working those long business calls, on the family road trip to Durban, flying to Cape Town, running on the treadmill and even just relaxing at home when the kids go to bed. They are light and comfy.

Now where these babies really stands out for me, (lets park all above mentioned points for a moment) is the noise cancellation, because what a wow! This is where Sony usually shines, and yet again with these new editions, they genuinely impressive. Whether I am in a noisy café, on a loud flight, or simply trying to tune out everyday distractions, these headphones use next-generation processors and adaptive algorithms that adjust to your surroundings, its wild. The result is a calm, quiet space that makes listening to my podcasts feel like a live experience.

When it comes to sound (and ya’ll know I love my music), the quality is rich rich rich…. with a soothing bass. And the actual vocals, oh my word, super clear. With my new Sony’s WH-1000XM6 listening to music just feels different, its layered, its defined, its detailed. Call me crazy but it’s like they were specifically created for lovers of Hip hop, Afrobeats and Amapiano. I find myself wearing them in the car sometimes. In addition to the dope music quality, my calls also sound more crisp, even podcasts seems like I am live in the studio as its being recorded.

Also being the tech girlie that I am, simply love the fact the Sony gives you the option to tweak the sound in the app. This is great if you like to customise your listening experience like I do. 10 points for this!!!

Last and most importantly, as a girl on the go, battery life is another huge factor for me. I mean who has the time to stop and recharge headphones in the middle of your day? Battery life on these ‘fashion accessories’ are top notch, like really good. You can easily get 2 full days of use, sometimes even more> Very convenient. And they weren’t lying when they said a 3-minute quick charge will give you  3 hours of playback. Its true!

They are also packed with intelligent features making them excellent for remote work, commuting and also travel. From the multipoint bluetooth allowing you to connect to two different devices, the auto ambient sound mode and the touch gesture controls.

Hands down, the Sony WH-1000XM6 is a truly premium product. The Sand Pink edition currently retails at about R9 999 in South Africa. While expensive, they are one of the best wireless headphones available in the market right now. Unlike other products on the market, they are not just beautiful, they also offer polished sound, deliver some of the best noise cancellation and have excellent battery life. So if you’re looking for high-quality, top tier headphones that combine performance with a bit of style and personality, these headphones are definitely for you too.
