Kennedy Kapembwa takes the first step towards [next stage/prize], as Red Bull Wings Cup brings EA SPORTS FC™ 27 to life at Comic Con Africa
The road to the Red Bull Wings Cup has officially kicked off, with Kennedy emerging as the winner of Red Bull Wings Cup Tournament at Comic Con Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Taking on 255 competitorsat the Red Bull Wings Cup activation, Kennedy showcased his EA SPORTS FC™ 27 skills to take the top spot and a chance to qualify for The National Final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on 1 November.
The Comic Con Africa activation marks the first opportunity for South African fans to experience the new Red Bull Wings Cup, a global EA SPORTS FC™ 27 tournament giving players a route from console and campus to the global stage.
FROM COMIC CON TO THE GLOBAL STAGE
Kennedy’s victory comes ahead of the official Red Bull Wings Cup competition window, which runs from 29 September to 1 November 2026.
South African players can enter through two pathways: the Open League, played online through PlayStation Tournaments and FACEIT, and the University League, which takes place through on-campus activations. The two routes ultimately lead to the South African National Final, where 16 players will compete at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on 1 November.
For Kennedy, the Comic Con victory represents an important milestone in his competitive gaming journey, securing his place in the next stage of the Red Bull Wings Cup and bringing him one step closer to the National Final.

A NEW ROUTE FOR MZANSI’S GAMERS
Red Bull Wings Cup is bringing together EA SPORTS FC™ 27 players from across the country, giving them the opportunity to compete for a place on the global stage.
The tournament is running across 80 countries, with the South African winner ultimately earning the opportunity to compete at the Red Bull Wings Cup World Final in Miami, expected in January 2027. At the global final, national champions will combine their in-game skills with real-world football challenges.
With the competition officially opening on 29 September, South African gamers can now get ready to enter the Wings Cup and begin their own journey from console to global stage.
